Meeting Notes 09/02/2010
What a pair of speeches! Lila Luce, CC, led off the evening with her tenth manual speech and in doing so earned her CC. In "Join in an Earthwatch Expedition" Luce combined a full panoply of Toastmaster skills to deliver, in true Lila Luce fashion, a great story that was so persuasive. Congrats to Lila!
In his icebreaker, Justin Wood, Future CC, told us of overcoming his fear of confrontation and physical harm by cage fighting. "Facing Your Fear" was Wood's first attempt at an organized speech and he did a terrific job. Way to go, Justin.
Evaluations were delivered by Erica and Marcia, both Future CCs.
Robert Henry, Future CC, orchestrated the table topics. Henry employed famous quotes as a primer for a group of challenging questions. Henry always takes this role seriously.
Steve Lockwood, ASC, held down the toastmasters role.
Another great meeting by a great club!!!

Thao Thai, Future CC, in her third manual speech dedicated to getting to the point, entitled "Medication Adherence", made quite clear, in a most interesting way, the long term benefits of sticking to one's medication routine. A great informative speech!!
Kate Parker, Future CC, employed a theme of "paper" to handle the tabletopics potion of the meeting.
Ed Spurlock, ASC, delivered his typically astute, incisive evaluation of Thao's speech.
Mike Keenan, ASC, back from vacation toastmastered a meeting themed around "change", something we can't escape, but can be handled with the proactivity public speaking provides.
Let's welcome Richard Schraeder as our new member. Richard is a graduate student I know we can help!
Meeting Notes 07/12/2010
Talk about an interesting famil!! In her icebreaker. Genevee , Future CC, spun a compelling tale about a mystery surrounding her family. I was spellbound.
Comics anyone? Lila Luce, Future CC, in her speech entitled "Sasa Sema" , told us of the comic business she created in Kenya. Luce not only created the business, but sold it. It is a going concern to this day!!!
Martin Wetzel, CC, toastmastered the meeting with his usual aplomb.
Evaluations were provided by Thao Thai, Futute CC, and Ed Spurlock, ASC.
Robert Henry, Future CC, renedered a tabletopics that creatively wove "positive" thinking into his series of questions.

Florence Thompson , Future CC, brought a good measure of professionalism to the lectern in her speech about cartography. Thompson's speech was a dry run at a business presentation she is to present to a group of professional map makers. Go forth, Florence!!!
Mike, ASC, Robert, Future CC, Marcia , Future CC, participated in a group evaluatuion of Florence's speech. Each added a suggestion aimed at sharpening Florence's presentation. Great work !!!
Marti Wetzel, CC, led table topics which utilized names of Texas towns with a foreign counterpart. Where would you like to go, Paris, Texas or Paris, France?
Kate Parker, Future CC, held down toastmaster in another superb performance.
Meeting Notes 06/21/2010
Amazing how we can take our bones for granted!!! In manual speech number two, "Bones" , Thao (Christi) Thai, Future CC, gave us a good primer on healthy bones and how exercise and a prudent lifestyle can result in a strong skeletal frame.
In his advanced manual speech, Mike Keenan, ASC, roasted Bill Thomas in a ficticious retirement from their engineering firm. Mike combined self deprecating humor and gentle jabs at Bill's fictional character in a "roast".
Florence Thompson, Future CC, did an excellent job of table topics. Florence's segues were particularly well timed.
Lila Luce, Future CC, toastmatered. Lila, in her subtle, yet effective way, urged us all to prepare for our meetings. Great leader ship, Lila!!!
Kate Parker and Robert Henry, both Future CCs, rendered effective evaluations of Christi's and Mike's speeches.
Another great meeting by a great club!!!
Meeting Notes 06/07/2010
Just how should a judge act? Should that public servant conform to a particular decorum, or is he or she free to act out of bounds when wearing the black robe? In her manual speech, Judicial Demeanor, Kate Gallagher, Future CC, researched her topic well, citing several Texas legislative codes, and illustrated for us where a judge crosses the line. I learned from this speech!!!
Can one woman make a difference? Yes she can!! Lila Luce, Future CC, in her manual speeech entitled Mecatealeaf gave us a biographical sketch of a woman who, despite imprisonment, persisted in her fight against injustice through unified resistance against an imperial power. Most appropriate was the use of her speaking abilities to rally her countrmen. Lila always tells a compelling story!!!
Marcia Beckford, Future CC, crafted her table topics around each speaker. A well thought, personalized table topics!
Mirsa Douglass, ASC, and Mike Keenan ASC, rendered table topics in a most encouraging yet beneficial manner.
Ed Spurlock, ASC, did a great job, as per usual, of toastmastering.
Meeting Notes 05/24/2010
Some night, when youre settled in for the evening, you might just hear something scratching in your wall!!! Don't be alarmed, but know who to call, what to do. In her manual speech, Shelly Davis, Future CC, got to the point in her speech, Wildlife Rescue, wherein she illustrated the steps she took to free a baby raccoon trapped in her roof. Shelly brings a wealth of energy and confidence to the lectern!!!
Can you handle the truth? If you play golf, you can. In his manual speech, Golf is Truth -Golf is Life, Paul Cartwright, Future CC, gave us a glimpse into the Zen of golf; its ups, its downs, and its lesson for life. Paul always brings a terrific presence to the room and he is surely on his way to becoming an accomplished speaker.
Katie Gallagher, Future CC, as toastmaster introduced the Rohrshack test as her table topic theme. Quite imaginative!!!
Mike Keenan ASC, and Lila Luce, Future CC, evaluated the speeches of Shelly and Paul respectively. Both pointed out strengths and areas for improvement in a tactful and supportive way.
Florence Thompson, Future CC, toast mastered her first meeting. Florence kept the meeting moving and made sure the agenda ran as planned. Good work, Florence.

A terrific meeting attended by seventeen people!!!
Robert Henry, Future CC, toastmastered and kept things moving in another efficient, speaking packed meeting.
Lila Luce, Future CC,rendered table topics using children's books as the centerpiece of this exciting, valuable extemporaneous exercise.
In her speech entitled, Go Camping,Florence Thompson, Future CC, captivated us with a persuasive speech about the advantages of camping which include not only the beauty of the outdoors, but the physical and spiritual benefits as well. Florence gains confidence each time she speaks.
Christine Thao, Future CC, in her icebreaker, introduced us to her by sharing her aspirations and dreams. Looking forward to seeing her grow!!
Evaluations were conducted by Joni James, Future CC, and Bill Thomas, Future CC. Both gave good pointers on where the speakers could improve but also made clear the speakers' strengths.
Sixty minutes of great work!!!

What next? Two great speeches and another good turnout!!!
In his persuasive speech titled, It Can Happen To Anybody, Bill Thomas, Future CC, showed us how just a couple of bad breaks could result in even the most successful people ending up homeless. Bill called us to action to help our fellow man recover from homelessness.
In her manual speech dedicated to getting to the point, The worst Things Youve Done, Joni James, Future CC, tempted each of us to forgive others and ourselves for a better life.
Both Bill and Joni held the crowd in attention.
Ed Spurlock, ASC, and Robert Henry, Future CC, employed helpful methods in evaluating Bill's and Joni's work. This club clearly has members who wish to grow.
Mike Keenan, ASC, held down table topics with a theme aimed at Discovery, both within and without.
Very few organizations offer better value than toastmasters!!!
Meeting Notes 05/03/2010
Robert Henry, Future CC, took a big step in delivering his manual speech on vocal variety. In ExtremeGreenVillage, Henry basically became his message rather than a speaker delivering a message. Steadily, Henry is becoming more confident at the lectern.
Lila Luce, Future CC, took us on a journey in Yosemite wherien she did such a masterful job of describing, in a most existential way, not just a hike through Yosemite, but an epiphany that tells us not to allow fear and caution to keep us from experiencing life. Evaluations were delivered by Mike Keenan, ACS, and Katie Parker, Future CC.
Florence Thompson, Future CC, presided over table topics with a Where were you when it happened theme.
This was an exciting, energy filled meeting with people building confidence and doing great work.

Meeting Notes 04/26/2010
Congrats to Martin Wetzel!!! Martin earned his CC award with his tenth manual speech, "The Ed School", wherein he inspired recent graduates in education to go beyond the crusty, often short sighted structure of formal "ed " learning. Martin has shown noticeable improvement in his speaking manner, voice, movement. Another accomplished "CENTRAL AUSTIN" speaker!!!
Paul Cartwright, Future CC, edged his way forward toward his CC with his speech"WHY WORRY?". Cartwright outlined ways to overcome unnecessary worry. Paul has terrific lectern presence!!!
Robert Henry, Future CC,handled table topics with a well planned program individualized for each speaker. Great approach to table topics. Katie Parker, Future CC, in particular gave a fun rendition of the six emotions.
Mike Keenan, ASC,and Mirsa Douglass, Future CL, handled evaluations.

Want to add some pizzazz to your introductions? Mirsa Douglass, Future CC, in her speech "On Intoductions" gave us the form and substance for creating an exciting environment not just for speeches, but for any get together. From the instant Mirsa delivered her speech, the whole meeting picked up. Another example of growth in a Toastmaster meeting !!
Imagine something exciting just like Katie Gallagher , Future CC, did in her speech, "Data is exciting" . If you don't think data is exciting, consider that knowledge is power. Of course, yes, data is exciting now that Ms. Gallagher has shown us the way.

Meeting Notes 04/12/2010
Spellbinding is how I describe Future CC Shelley Davis' speech about victim's services. In" What Does Victim's Services Mean To You?" Davis organized her work into the proper beginning, middle, and end. She shared her experiences as a volunteer helping people deal with death. Davis was especially descriptive in a riveting personal experience.
Robert Henry, Future CC, has grown noticeably as a speaker. In his speech, The Monthly Meeting, Henry used eye contact, physical movements, and vocal variety to add spice to his speech. Well done, Robert!!
Mirsa Douglass, Future CL, toastmastered the meeting. Mirsa did a terrific job of making the meeting interesting with segues, examples etc. Very colorful, Mirsa. Why did a tree not thrive and grow in a perfect environment in MoodyGardens? It lacked stress. A terrific example of how a toastmaster meeting pushes us to grow.

Meeting Notes 04/05/2010
Florence Thompson and Marcia Beckford, both Future CCs, both gave interesting, motivating speeches from the CC manual for organizing your speech.
In her speech, My Hero, Florence employed a solid beginning, middle, and end to convey the influence her high school track coach had on her as a young woman. Florence developed a sense of pride and empowerment from her coach.
Marcia likewise utilized the three components of an organized speech in Filled To The Rim wherein she guided us around TownLake in the experience of walking joyfully in her leisure. What a geyser of joy!!!
Bill Thomas, Future CC, and Ed Spurlock, ASC, evaluated with their typical aplomb!
Shelly Davis, Future CC, employed a variety of table topics that were fun and thought provoking. We all had a relaxed time with that. And Martin Wetzel, Future CC, toastmastered a fine meeting.
